Xmedia recode constant quality settings9/21/2023 ![]() x265 does still have a tendency to not work as well as x264 for archiving at the very highest quality where you can't visually determine difference to the original file under normal circumstances, but it does excel at giving a good to very good quality at much lower bitrate ![]() Since you have so far been using 720p and CRF 22 I would assume you are happy with what might be called "ok" quality. ![]() How much time do you want to invest to encode a TV show. Can you play back the files on any device you like. What is your quality goal? Entirely transparent or just "good quality".I think you should consider a few things to decide between x264 and x265 Look forward to reading your thoughts, thanks in advance. Generally i've stuck with x264 because i've always been comfortable with the quality it gives, but if people think x265 is the better option now i'd be happy to switch. I'd be keen to know what setups others are using for similar purposes, just to get some idea of whether mine are along the right lines or not. The eps rip between 8 and 14gb individually, but with the Super HQ settings i've been using for film encodes, the episodes still come out larger than i'd like generally (8gb down to approx 6.5 as an example). ![]() I've been experimenting with some episodes from season 1 of Downton Abbey, with the aim of retaining 1080p and maintaining a decent standard of quality. Historically i've always encoded them down to 720p at 22 CRF using x264, but having recently picked up a 4K TV for the living room, the quality doesn't stand up for me any longer. I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their main settings for encoding TV shows ripped from Blu-Ray source please? ![]()
