Ice blades do take time to come online even with frost nova not very long, but longer then Hydras. If anything I'd probably swap the Hydra/Frost Bolt slot for teleport and just deal with the occasional pack that I somehow pull without an existing army of blades and also few cooldowns up. If you don't have that, then I guess Hydra is a no cooldown clearing ability, but it's a much larger point investment (6 vs 1) and leaves you much more vulnerable than getting your core engine going.ĪoE vuln is just too valuable to drop for teleport. If you have any vuln source + 1-2 cooldowns (depending on which ones) then Ice Blades takes effectively zero time to come online and there's literally no point to Hydra. Hydra is a pure damage skill that contributes nothing to the synergy the rest of the build is going for, while Frost Bolt may as well do zero damage and exists purely to smooth over the case where Frost Nova is on CD at the start of a pack and you need to get vuln up. Hydra and Frost Bolt don't serve any purpose in common. Frost Bolt is just there to give you an easy way to bootstrap if you get stuck with Frost Nova on cooldown and no vulnerable enemies, can easily be swapped for Teleport for better mobility and more Ice Blades, and some extra DR if you move some points around. This gives you an engine to just constantly spam more minions, barrier, immunity, and CC. Something like, put Ice Blades in your passive slot, and then run Frost Bolt+Flame Shield+Ice Armor+Frost Nova+Ice Blades+Deep Freeze.Įvery time you cast anything but Frost Bolt you get more Ice Blades, Frost Nova applies huge AoE vulnerability, and any time an Ice Blade hits a vulnerable enemy it reduces its cooldown by a second and all your others by half a second. I'm still confused how I keep seeing builds that use ice blade builds but then opt to build around hydra instead of ice blade CD reduction spam. It can be mitigated with some of the legendary aspects though.Įdit: It should be noted that the guaranteed crit from the concealment will proc on all four hits from flurry and the shadow infusion will last for two casts of it (so 8 hits total) so there's some strong synergy there. It struggles with single target a little but but you can use inner sight for infinite energy to have 100% uptime on flurry which is pretty insane single target damage, but then you sacrifice survivability because you can only proc vulnerability when low on energy or the explosion from shadow infusion. The survivability is pretty good because you get the life steal from flurry on vulnerable targets and it has 2 ways to proc it.
